This generation came with a new engine for the line. This was the 2.0L EcoBoost. This engine had a max towing capacity of 3500 pounds, and has an EPA rating of 24 MPG. The other engines were a 3.5L V6 that has an EPA rated 21 MPG. While the 2.7L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 has an EPA rating of 21 MPG as well.
Some of the changes to the interior and exterior gave the interior more room. It also came with a rear-view camera. Other than a new look, the model remained mostly the same from the years before.
In 2019, the model saw some more changes. This was a revised front grille, and a 12-speaker B&O surround system. Some new safety features were also offered this year. These were post-collision braking, evasive steering, and adaptive cruise control.
For the 2020 model, dual-zone automatic climate controls were included on all trims, while the CD player was removed. In 2021, the Edge gained a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
This came equipped with wireless phone connectivity. The ST-Line trim also joined the lineup. Bases on the SEL trim, this took some of the higher ST features, and brought them down to a more affordable price.
The ST was the top trim level and comes with the 2.7L V6 engine. This engine produced 335 horsepower. The styling comes with a dark-finished mesh front grille, and aluminum alloy wheels.
This generation is one of the safest, with the 2015 test giving it the IIHS Top Safety Pick, and an overall 5 star safety rating for 2016 from the NHTSA.
As fate would have it, the Edge would end up being discontinued in the US, leaving behind its legacy. With no successor, the Edge rode off into the sunset as one of the safest cars on the road.
